Four scan modes
Each mode targets a different recovery scenario.
Quick Scan
Reads NTFS Master File Table or FAT directory entries directly. Fastest mode — typically scans a 500 GB drive in under 2 minutes. Best for recently deleted files where the filesystem still has metadata.
Recycle Bin
Parses $Recycle.Bin metadata files ($I) and content files ($R). Files moved to Recycle Bin (regular Delete) are 100% recoverable with full original filenames and paths preserved.
Deep Signature Scan
Reads disk byte by byte and matches 40+ file format signatures (JPEG, PNG, MP4, PDF, ZIP, etc.). Works even when the filesystem is corrupted or the partition table is damaged.
Volume Shadow Copies
Lists Windows VSS snapshots (vssadmin). Recover files from a point in time before deletion — bypasses TRIM entirely on SSDs because the snapshot was taken before the data was zeroed.

Read-only Source Drive
RecoverX never writes to the drive you're recovering from. Recovered files go to a separate destination only.

TRIM Detection
Knows when SSD data is truly zeroed. Marks files as Risky before you waste time recovering nothing.
Folder-Targeted Scan

Magic Byte Validation
Detects when cluster data has been overwritten by another file. Catches false positives competitors miss.

Summary after recovery — saved/failed counts, total bytes, error list, one-click open output folder.
Cryptographic Licensing
Ed25519-signed license keys bound to a hardware fingerprint. AES-256-GCM encrypted local cache.
Disk Image Mode
Clone failing drives to .img first, then recover from the safe copy. Reduces stress on dying hardware.
